Why are the "May 21st ers" not willing to put their money where their mouths are?

It may be that they are conservative, on the chance that they could somehow be wrong. You might try lowering the bet, to a thousand dollars, a hundred, whatever. If it gets down to a dollar, maybe they will realize they just do not have much belief, and shut up.
